NYS Security Guard Training Courses

If you are looking for employment as a security guard in the city or state of New York, VNP Security Company offers the following NYS mandated security guard training courses conducted at our approved training school by our certified instructors. Call or e-mail us to pre-register if you are interested in taking any of these courses.

 The first required course is an Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Training course. This is a general introductory course. Upon successful completion of this course VNP Security Company issues a training certificate to the applicant. This certificate must accompany the applicant's registration application when submitted to the NYS Department of State. Once the application is submitted, the applicant has 90 days to complete the second training course.

• Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 9:00 a.m.

 The second required course is the 16 Hour On-the-Job (OTJ) Training course. This training is relevant to the guard's duties, requirements of the work site, and the needs of the employer. VNP Security Company may conduct this training in our own approved classroom setting or at an approved work site conducive to learning.

 The third required course is the Eight Hour Annual In-service Training course. This training must be completed each calendar year following completion of the 16 Hour OTJ Training course. VNP Security Company designs this program to meet current training needs and to refresh or update guards in changes in the security field. The guard must complete this course as a prerequisite for renewal of his or her guard registration.

Note: Training for security guards was mandated in New York state by the Security Guard Act of 1992. The Act requires that all security guards complete three training courses. Armed guards are required to complete two additional training courses. New York State requires that all courses be conducted at approved training schools, by certified instructors.

The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, Office of Public Safety provides administrative oversight for private security training in New York State.

The NYS Department of State, Division of Licensing Services has oversight responsibility for the licensing and registration of all security guards in New York State.
